Video Games effects on Young Consumers

By Bryan Larner

Video Games- Are there certain psychological tendencies that are consistent across most video game players?

Personal Interest

Being an avid gamer, I was curious to see how video games have effected my life, as well as future generations.  In addition, I wanted to see the views of those who are opposed to playing video games.

Method

I used Lexis-Nexis, Proquest, and Google Scholar Search for my search engines due to their vast length in article databases.  I used these to find scholarly, non-opinionated views on effects on video games.  I then found articles that show direct illustrations of why video games are violent.

Findings

1)    Violent video games show and an create violent attitudes.

2)    Action video games increase visual attention due to high detailed tasking in missions.

3)    Video games have become more violent with newer and mor advanced technology.

4)    Attention in school is decreased, due to different learning style that uses basic principles of learning, rather than new and intuitive styles created by video game companies.

5)    Violent video games are most likely to create violent behaviors, than traditional toys, such as legos, dolls, etc.

What I learned

Throughout all the articles, my main opinion is that most of the articles written are biased towards video game companies, because these software giants have created new ways to get children to learn without using traditional style school teachings.  The other important thing I learned is that instead of stating how bad violent games are, congressman other political figures should be pushing video game companies to create more thought provoking educating games.
